Leaders in Training

The middle phase of the Next Steps Program focuses on developing character and skills for 13 to 15 year olds.

As our students advance through our Next Steps Program, motivated, responsible students can apply to be a Leader in Training. Trust us, you should apply. Life lessons and skills will be learned that you can apply to the rest of your life. You’ll:

  • Figure out what’s most important to you in life with values training RoundTables developed by Global Priority Solutions, in partnership with John Maxwell
  • Learn to lead—and apply what you’ve learned by leading younger students
  • Get money smart with financial literacy training (via certified instructors of the National Endowment for Financial Education)
  • Become a team player—we have the only high ropes course in the state of Iowa designed for groups to navigate obstacles together

Character is often “caught vs. taught.” Priority is placed on building trust and safe relationships with Team Leaders who offer a healthy image of leadership. Together with your Team Leaders, you’ll put your newly acquired knowledge to practice by facilitating programming for the Ranchers.

Young Leaders have the opportunity to spend two weeks at the Ranch for three consecutive summers and are expected to attend monthly leadership retreats. The program concludes with a graduation cap (assuming you work hard/play hard). Interested students need to fill out an application, be interviewed and provide three written references. We offer a limited number of spaces.
